Konstanz/Reutlingen/Amman – April 2025

Three universities from Germany and Jordan have come together to launch an international cooperation project that addresses one of the most pressing needs of our time: the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare to enhance resilience in the face of growing global challenges. The partnership involves the Hochschule Konstanz University of Applied Sciences (HTWG Konstanz), Reutlingen University, and the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Amman, Jordan.

The project is rooted in the recognition that today’s societal problems are not only increasingly complex but also lie at the intersection of multiple disciplines. Successfully addressing these challenges demands international and interdisciplinary collaboration—and a new framework for education and research that brings diverse expertise together in service of human health and well-being.

With this vision in mind, the new initiative focuses on building a sustainable and effective teaching and research cooperation that unites the strengths of all three institutions. Its core mission is to integrate AI and Big Data technologies into contemporary healthcare and medical applications, with the broader goal of fostering resilience in healthcare systems.

A New Approach to Medical AI Education

The project will use a project-based teaching and research model to introduce students and researchers to the grand challenges at the intersection of medicine, physiology, and artificial intelligence. Participants will gain hands-on experience in analyzing real-world medical sensor data from large and diverse patient cohorts using cloud computing and advanced AI techniques.

A pilot research group will be established to spearhead this effort. Researchers will be trained to formulate relevant questions in medical big data, develop robust analytical tools, and derive meaningful insights through machine learning. The interdisciplinary nature of the project ensures that both technical and medical dimensions are addressed in an integrated way.

Scientific and Societal Impact

This international collaboration not only strengthens ties between Germany and Jordan but also represents a significant contribution to the global research community. It cultivates intercultural exchange and nurtures the next generation of medical data scientists—professionals who are urgently needed in both the European and Middle Eastern healthcare sectors.

The participating students and researchers will develop expertise in handling real-time medical data, designing AI-based health solutions, and working across disciplinary boundaries. As a result, they will be better equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market shaped by digital transformation and the ongoing Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In a time when collaboration, adaptability, and innovation are essential, this partnership between HTWG Konstanz, Reutlingen University, and GJU offers a forward-looking model for international, interdisciplinary cooperation in education and research—united by a shared commitment to using AI for the betterment of human health.
